A Lost Generation

A Lost Generation?

A palindrome reads the same backwards as forward. This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward. Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite. This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant. Make sure you read as well as listen forward and backward. This is a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20-year old. The contest was titled "u @ 50" by AARP. This video won second place. When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42E2fAWM6rA

Unrequitted Love

Thoughts can be controlled, actions can be controlled, but can the heart?

Shakespeare once said that the most painful thing in the world is unrequitted love. It' s a horrible pinning, longing for something/someone that doesn't have the same feeling back. It's like a thorn in the side, twisting the flesh till it not only bleeds, but slowly and painfully tortures the soul. It's a small pin in the chest that can hardly be seen, but unquestionably felt.

For The Record

I have a confession…A part of me is ashamed to admit it, but, I, like many others (I’m sure you’re out there!), am secretly intrigued with the life of Britney Spears. I have often questioned myself on this. It’s not so much her life as a celebrity in the public eye, but more so, the person who (just like everyone else in this world) seemed to succumb to the overwhelming pressure of perceiving herself to be something more than she could possibly be: human, with flaws and all!

I just finished reading the review on her latest documentary as it were. She speaks of how she lost her way. How she just seemed to exist from day to day. I believe no matter what level you are at, or your age, there comes a day or a stage where everyone feels like that. But what distinguishes us from loosing it all together or letting it spiral out of control is more than just listening to our own conscience, but it has a lot to do with our own coping mechanisms. In this case, Britney shut all reasoning out when she decided to ‘take control’ of her own life. She misunderstood her own desire of wanting help and wanting what’s best for herself by counting on herself to know all the answers. She didn’t realise that humanly we can’t do anything alone.

Love her or hate her, or you just don’t care, but she’s almost the benchmark social experiment on how things around us, fool our own perceptions, needs and images of ourselves. Just like media messed with her head, the media does the exact same thing with our own minds. Think about it? Society/media/the world expects us to be, act, and perceive ourselves in a certain light. So exactly how different is our lives from that of a celebrity’s? Not very in that we all need people we can trust around us, a good head on our shoulders, realistic perceptions and goals for ourselves AND the determination and knowledge to reach them…Because when it comes down to it…who sets these expectations for us? Ourselves. Nope, she is not alone, at times everyone feels like the world is weighing on their shoulders…
I wish her well.

Don't look back!

It's hard to know where you're going...
It's hard to know where you've been...
So just enjoy each moment...
Then each day is a sure win!:D

Some days are just like that!

I have a friend, Ashu, that works in mental health as a crisis worker. She recently began a new job. She was so eager and excited about joining this particular organisation, which dealt with coming in close contact with the patients. I wanted to check in on her first day so I gave her a call and it went simply like this:

Me: Hey! How’s your first day on the job going?

Ashu: Listen I’ll have to call you later…someone just threw a computer out the window! (Click)

Well, it left me wondering who chucked the computer out the window…the patient or the employee? ...

You can’t deny it…mental or not…we’ve all had days where we’ve felt like just throwing something! :D

Do you have both oars?

Most of us want to be led, directed, have meaning in our life, a purpose and a means to fulfill that desire. The rest of us are just plain confused and paddling with one oar in circles. In most cases the two scenarios collide. We seem to be smoothly paddling forward till somewhere along the way we drop an oar and don’t even realise it. It is at those times when we get so dizzy that the only thing to do is to stop and take in where you are at the moment, forget about where you had been, set new sights and gather new tools to move forward.
